The first and most important question: Is the Price Gap Worth It?
Composite separators cost significantly more than standard PE separators. Customers often ask whether the price premium is justified.Frankly speaking, the answer depends on your product positioning. If you manufacture batteries for the low-end replacement market where sales volume is the top priority with minimal after-sales pressure, standard PE separators will suffice. The extra cost of composite separators cannot be offset by your selling price. However, for branded OEM matching or export markets with high after-sales liability, the incremental cost of composite separators per battery cell is negligible, while the reduction in after-sales failures is tangible. One of our UPS battery clients switched to composite separators and saw their first-year after-sales failure rate drop by just under one percentage point. This figure may seem insignificant, yet the savings on service travel fees and compensation amounted to six times the extra cost of the separators. Therefore, composite separators are well worth consideration for batteries engineered for long service life.Ultimately, it all comes down to matching suitability. We never regard PE separators as a universal fix-all solution. They are merely a component: use them if they fit your requirements, switch alternatives if they do not. Some customers ask us, “Which type do you recommend?” We usually respond with three counterquestions: “What application will your batteries serve? What is your target service life? What after-sales warranty period do you offer?” After answering these three questions, most customers can figure out the optimal choice themselves.Whether it is a PE separator or a composite separator, do not simply opt for the cheapest or the priciest one — pick the variant tailored to your actual application scenario.
